Founded in 1968 by two brothers, Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti, who had originally sought to add a boat dealership to their family’s existing portfolio of luxury automobile dealerships. The brothers planned to sell other manufacturers vessels, however, they quickly transitioned into manufacturing their own yachts. Their first yacht debuted in 1971 at the Genoa Boat Show.
In the 1970s and 1980s the brothers continued to focus on building the Ferretti brand. The 1980s also saw the company shift focus to motor yachts, which were gaining in popularity. Through the 2000s Ferretti Group acquired a number of other yacht builders including Pershing, Bertram, Riva, Itama, Mochi Craft and CRN. In 2012 Weichai Holding Group acquired a majority stake in the company.
The Ferretti Groups expansive portfolio of yacht manufacturers has turned it into a research and development powerhouse, driving new innovation in the yachting industry.
