We are all set for the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, with the world’s premier yachting event kicking-off today, Wednesday, 25th September, and running for the next three days.
Our CEO and Founder, James Fachtmann, just flew into Nice, France, to attend this year’s MYS.
Here, he shares some of the most exciting elements of the show, from the must-see yachts, trends, industry experts he will be speaking to and how he uses the show to prepare for the yachting industry of the future to better assist clients.
James Fatchmann at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024
Why is the Monaco Yacht Show such an important show?
“Monaco sets the tone for the global yachting industry. It’s where deals are made, trends are set, and the who’s who of the yachting world gathers. It’s less about yachts and more about the lifestyle that comes with them.”
What aspect of the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 are you most looking forward to?
“I’m most excited about seeing how the world’s most innovative yacht designers and shipyards are pushing boundaries this year. It’s not every day you see the future of yachting unfold right before your eyes—and in such a glamorous setting, of course. Meeting with friends, colleagues, designers, and clients are just some of the many things I look forward to when I attend the MYS.
“I also love how the aviation industry is woven into this amazing show. JFA Aviation launches in 2025, so engaging this element of the show is especially exciting for me this year.”
What will your day-to-day activities look like at the MYS 2024?
“I won’t be tied to a specific stand, instead, I’ll be floating between a few key meetings with designers, brokers, and industry innovators. Let’s just say that if you’re not meeting over Champagne in Monaco, you’re not doing it right.
“Heesen, Amels/Damen, Oceanco, Lurssen, Rossinavi, Feadship, Abeking & Rasmussen, Sunreef, Benetti, Baglietto, Turquoise, Tankoa, Perini Navi, Riva, San Lorenzo, and Sunseeker are just a few of the shipyards I have on my schedule.
“Meeting with my designer friends and their teams is vital to my Monaco Yacht Show 2024 visit. The Monaco Yacht Show is unique in that you can access some of the most influential individuals whose pens ink the future of what the superyachts will look and feel like.
“Spending time with designers like my friend Olivier Racoupeau and Cor D. Rover, who I first met back in 2016, has given me amazing insights on how we arrived here and, even more importantly, where we are going. Ideas, imaginings, and trends I learn about here in Monaco every year, I see them materialize in 2-3 years, giving my bespoke clients a looking glass into the future. I prepare for what the market will look like while at this show.
“Yachts that debut at the Monaco Yacht Show that I tour often help me guide brokerage clients to acquire them in just a few short years. Knowing the right resources by first name helps me build a team around my clients when it’s time to build something amazing! It all ties together brilliantly here in Monaco.”
What trends will you be discussing at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024?
“I’m looking forward to any discussions around sustainability in yachting. Luxury meets eco-consciousness is the trend, and hearing from those making strides in this area is incredibly inspiring.
“On the legal side of superyacht transactions, attending the Annual IYBA Superyacht Law Summit at Yacht Club de Monaco is an event I look forward to every year. Keeping my clients on the right side of right is critically important when working with contracts that represent 10 if not 100 of millions. Whether euros or US dollars, the law is the law and if it’s not in the contract it does exist. Knowing the law takes time and experience. Knowing whom to turn to before my clients sign on the line is vital to a happy closing or factory turnover. Asking all the hard questions upfront for a high degree of legal clarity will ensure that if things don’t go as planned, my client’s expectations are met. Knowing who to ask helps expedite this process, hence why I look forward to seeing all my friends at Robert Allen Law in Monaco every year!
What are some of the key trends you expect to see at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024?
“I expect to see a big focus on hybrid propulsion and green technology, as well as how design is merging more with lifestyle—yachts aren’t just a mode of transport anymore, they’re destinations in themselves.
“With the America’s Cup happening now, foiling technology is something I’ve been watching develop for the last decade.
“Ocean interaction enhancements such as balconies that extend out over the sea and aft beach lounges that extend swimming platforms into the clear Mediterranean waters have been such a joy to develop over the past few years.
“Explorer yachts are another key trend that I keep my eyes on. How designers and shipyards build harmony between the inside and the outdoors and from cabin to cabin while matching all the client’s missions is fascinating.
“Walking my clients through this amazing exclusive show, I have the privilege of introducing them not just to these magnificent works of art but to those whose beautifully imaginative minds created them and to the shipyards that crafted and built them into existence.
“Lastly, the toys at this show have their own section which the James (Bond) in me loves to visit each year!
“If not this year, plan now for next year’s Monaco Yacht Show 2025 so that I can guide you through this wonderland of superyachts and aircraft!”
How have you seen the show evolve over the years?
“It’s grown from a pure showcase of yacht extravagance to a more dynamic space where innovation, sustainability, and future-facing tech have become just as important as the size of the vessel.
“Monaco is the biggest little show of the year, with Palm Beach at a distant second. Being ultra-exclusive provides amazing access. Let me show you how nice it is to not have to stand in enormous lines just to register to see a vessel or meet a designer or meet a shipyard representative. Monaco saves my clients time with exclusive access.”
Any yachts in particular you are looking forward to viewing?
“There are a few that I have my eye on, but I’m particularly excited about checking out the new models from some leading Italian shipyards. They never fail to blend elegance with cutting-edge technology.
