You have pictured it a million times before: Looking through your sunglasses- blue ocean as far as the eye can see. You feel the warm sun on your skin and the rocking motion of the waves. Peaceful. At ease. It’s a beautiful vision but before it can come to life, the most important component must be secured- the right boat.
Yachts vary in type, size, and purpose. JFA Yacht & Ship is passionate about working on client’s behalf with a collaborative team approach. Here are some initial questions you can expect from a JFA broker on your first call to launch the buying process:
- What is your budget?
A realistic budget is necessary for buying and maintaining your boat. Depending on size, year and model, yachts can range in price from $500,000 to upwards of $10,000,000. Don’t forget to account for things like moorage fees, fuel fees, insurance fees, repair, and maintenance etc. - What do you want to do with your boat?
“The answer to this helps me know where to start” JFA Captain Rick Milroy says. “Determining if you want your boat for leisurely cruising, entertaining or fishing makes a difference.” Today’s boats are made for distinct purposes so think about the main activity you’d like to do with the boat or how you’ll use the boat. - How far do you want to go?
Do you intend to go up and down the east coast of the US or to the islands off the coast of Florida? This gives JFA an idea of how powerful the motors need to be and how much fuel and water-holding capacity will be necessary. - How much time do you want to spend on the boat?
“Overnight for two weeks?” Milroy asks, “or just a couple nights here and there?” How long you’ll be at sea dictates the boat size and accommodations required. - Do you have any “must haves?”
What are your non-negotiables when it comes to your new boat? JFA Captain Michael Zornes observes, “oftentimes when people are new, I have them give me their list and I act as a translator, translating the items into the technical terms. People know what their dream is, and I try to fill in that blank.”
JFA has the industry-leading technology, knowledge, and expertise to efficiently and effectively help you narrow the search to secure the right vessel that will surely bring joy for years to come.
